A handcrafted enamel and sterling necklace that is based on the design of the astrolabe, an ancient astronomical instrument. It hangs from an 18 inch sterling foxtail chain.
An astrolabe can calculate astronomical positions, identify stars or planets, and determine the time if the latitude is known, or vice versa. It can locate us in space and time.
The enamel disk of this necklace was made by coating a copper disk with liquid enamel, letting it dry, then scratching the design through to the bare copper. The setting is handmade of textured sterling and there is a small moonstone in the center.
