Juno Space Probe Necklace
I made this one-of-a-kind necklace after viewing the gorgeous images from NASA’s Juno Space Probe mission. The necklace consists of 5 miniature enamel paintings that depict swirling cloud tops recorded when the probe skimmed the upper part of Jupiter’s atmosphere. Each disk is mounted so it can rotate on the silver backing of the necklace and set with a moonstone.
I painted the images in thin layers of metal oxides mixed with acrylic media, firing between each layer, so the disks have depth and luminosity. This technique is known as Limoges, named for the city in southwest France where this type of enamel was famously produced in the 12th and 15th centuries. My pendant hangs from a commercial 16-inch sterling silver wheat chain.
